Ford and Jose Cuervo are teaming up to solve two environmental problems at once.
Ford is always looking for new ways to build vehicles more sustainably, lower tailpipe emissions, and reduce petroleum use in manufacturing. Jose Cuervo is looking for a better way to utilize leftover agave fiber from plants pressed during the tequila-making process. Throwing it out would be a waste.
Today, Jose Cuervo is shipping its excess fiber to Ford, which is researching ways to use the natural, renewable fibers in durable composite plastics.
"Jose Cuervo is proud to be working with Ford to further develop our agave sustainability plan," said Sonia Espinola, director of heritage for Cuervo Foundation and master tequilera. "As the world’s No. 1-selling tequila, we could never have imagined the hundreds of agave plants we were cultivating as a small family business would eventually multiply to millions. This collaboration brings two great companies together to develop innovative, earth-conscious materials."
